Workshop „For Socially Just Development “in Palestine

As part of Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung’s (FES) regional project “For Socially Just Development – Economic Policies for Social Justice in the MENA Region”, the FES East-Jerusalem office conducted a workshop about socially just development in Palestine on 5 June 2016 in Ramallah.

The workshop aimed at analyzing and critically discussing economic policy as well as the socio-economic situation in the Palestinian Territories. The main aspects that were discussed by the attending politicians, academics and members of civil society included the fiscal, employment, investment and foreign trade policies in the West Bank and Gaza.

The key notes presented by Fadi S. Abdellatif (Special Advisor to the Palestinian Ministry of National Economy), Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh (Director of the Palestinian Economic Council for Development and Reconstruction), Dr. Sami Abdullah (Senior Researcher at the Palestine Economic Policy Research Institute (MAS)) and Dr. Nasser Abdelkarim (member of the regional project’s core group) allowed for a critical, constructive, and complex discussion. The results of the workshop will be incorporated into the regional project and will provide a basis for further media campaigns and projects.
