Short report: “Women on the National Agenda and Sectoral Policies”

On Monday, 19 July 2018, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES), in cooperation with its partner “Palestinian Non-Governmental Organizations Network (PNGO)”, organized the forth workshop of the year, dealing the topic “Women on the National Agenda and Sectoral Policies”. The workshop was part of the mutual project “Strengthening the role of civil society on influencing the national and sectorial policies”.

Ms. Dr. Haifa Al-Agha, Minister of Women Affairs, presented the women development plan 2017-2020, and discussed with the audience the current status of women in Gaza Strip.

She spoke of the difficult social and political situation of women in the Palestinian territories, especially in the Gaza Strip. The proportion of women in the labor market has remained at around 19% since the establishment of the Palestinian Authority and has not improved in the recent years. More difficult is the situation of the women who lead families, whose percent reached about 11% of the total Palestinian families.

The invited guests from the women’s associations, civil society and journalists had a lively discussion with Fr. Al-Agha. The aim of the workshop was to raise the voice of the women’s associations towards the decision-makers and to discuss solution concepts.
