Potential Implications of the Palestinian Authority’s entry into International Trade Agreements: World Trade Organization

On Wednesday, 11 July 2018, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) in cooperation with its partner organization BISAN Center for Research & Development, organized a workshop on the issue “Potential Implications of the Palestinian Authority’s entry into International Trade Agreements: World Trade Organization”. The workshop took place in the BISAN headquarter in Ramallah.

A paper prepared by BISAN provided the participants with background knowledge about the WTO international trade agreements, the Paris Protocol – which was part of the Oslo Accords – and the economic border control, with main focus on the import and export system.

During the workshop, several economists argued that, given the complexity of the situation in Palestine, the entry of the Palestinian Authority into international trade agreements would have a negative impact on the national economy.

Considering factors such as occupation and control over boundaries, resources and freedom of movement, participants discussed alternative development visions and shared their ideas.
