Following the publication of the latest issue of the Palestine-Israel Journal – in cooperation with FES Palestine – a public launching event was held on 24 May in Jerusalem to commemorate 50 years of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian Territory, the focus of the latest issue.
The two key speakers – Member of Knesset (MK) Ahmad Tibi, Arab Joint List, and MK Zehava Galon, Chairperson of Meretz – described the current state of affairs in the occupied Palestinian territory and explored possible strategies to end the occupation.
With the public event attended by Palestinian, Israeli and international academics, writers and journalists, the ensuing discussion with the audience allowed for an in-depth analysis of the consequences of the ongoing Israeli occupation and highlighted some of the key reasons why previous attempts to end the occupation have failed.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, PLO Executive Committee Member Dr. Hanan Ashrawi could not participate as originally planned.
