Our Junior Guest Researchers visit the FES-office Israel

On the 13th of November our two Junior Guest Researches Alex and Ada took part in the first part “Intern-Exchange” with the FES office in Israel.

For two days both of them travelled to Tel Aviv to meet our colleagues and their project partners and to learn more about their work. The program concludes the following week, when the interns from Tel Aviv will visit our office in East-Jerusalem in order to get familiar with our team’s work and the political situation in Palestine.

After a brief getting-to-know each other on their first day, the interns went to visit the museum of the Yitzhak Rabin Center and got some interesting insights into the life of the Israeli politician and his role in Israel’s history. They also took part in an insightful meeting with the MACRO Center for Political Economics that enabled the FES partner to present their findings of the fourth Israeli Youth Study. The very enlightening, and partly surprising results, were the subject of a brief discussion afterwards between the MACRO staff and our youngest colleagues. In the evening, the group attended a political briefing on Israeli history and politics by FES Israel program manager Micky Drill.

In the beginning of the second day, FES Israel’s team welcomed Alex and Ada in their office in Herzliya and gave them further insight into upcoming events and their projects in a team meeting. Later that day, they met with Yaakov Avid the director of the Histadrut Youth organization who explained the many difficulties young Trade Unionist face in their work. Finally, the group talked to Orly Bitty, a member of the Histadrut Women’s Department and the Special Projects Division, who among other things emphasized the importance of including women of all socio-economic sectors in her work.
