FES-PGFTU Workshop: “Strengthening Trade Union Youth Work” in Nablus for PGFTU youth leaders.

Between 10 and 12 May FES had the pleasure of welcoming Ronja Endres and Christian Beck, two young union activists from the German Trade Union Federation (DGB), to Palestine. Together with them and FES’ partner, the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions (PGFTU) FES conducted a joint workshop titled “Strengthening Trade Union Youth Work” in Nablus for PGFTU youth leaders.

During the workshop the two trainers shared their experiences with youth work in unions in Germany and around the world and together with the participants discussed the current situation, struggles and objectives of youth in Palestinian trade unions. Moreover, in interactively designed sessions, they gave valuable impulses on issues such as recruiting and campaigning strategies for youth leaders in unions as well as their possibilities to improve worker’s rights and raise awareness for young worker’s issues in society.

A day before the workshop started in Nablus Ronja Endres and Christian Beck, in preparation, took part in a number of political and socio-economic briefings and tours in order to familiarize themselves with the Palestinian context.

Besides getting to know the work of PGFTU from its General Secretary of Public Services Husain Al-Foqahaa, they visited Qalandia checkpoint as well as various politically and economically important sights in the West Bank cities of Nablus and Ramallah.
