Junior Guest Researchers

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in the Palestinian Territories offers interested students the opportunity to join its office as a Junior Guest Researcher over the period of three months.

Application Requirements:

Students interested in a Junior Guest Researcher position should have completed their first stage of relevant university studies in social sciences or cultural/regional studies and have a good command of English. Arabic skills would be an additional asset but are not required.

International students with knowledge of German are encouraged to apply as well. Interested applicants should submit a resume and compelling cover letter (both to be submitted in English). The cover letter should list any previous experience in Middle Eastern regional issues as part of university studies as well as your personal motivation.

Please do not forget to state the period of time in which you would be available for a Junior Guest Researcher position in your cover letter.

Applications should also include scans of university diplomas and certificates of previous internships.

About Work as a Junior Guest Researcher

As a Junior Guest Researcher you will have your own computer and working space. A small library offers a glance into economic, social, and political developments in the Middle East. The Foundation’s close cooperation with Palestinian partners and research institutes offers an ideal research opportunity for our Junior Guest Researchers.

Reports on workshops and conferences, attending meetings with partner organizations, and internet research are amongst the main tasks of our Junior Guest Researchers in the daily work at the Foundation. The focus of additional research work is not limited to a specific topic and can be discussed ahead of time.

Junior Guest Researchers are responsible for securing their own flight tickets, accommodation and health insurance. We recommend getting in touch for information on accommodation used by former Junior Guest Researchers. Please be aware that the cost of renting accommodation in Jerusalem is high (500 Euro per month). Accepted Junior Guest Researchers will receive a handbook to prepare them for their stay in Jerusalem.

For a stay longer than three months it is necessary to secure an extension of a visa from the Israeli ministry of the interior before the expiration of the first visa issued.
